Chibi-Robo developer Skip has been quiet for some time, which made me ask “What are they up to today?” Unfortunately, the answer may not be good.

THIS GAME BLOWS
It's likely that skip is running for royalties/rights management and contract work for other developers. Companies don't just lay dormant like that, they can't afford to.
For anybody who wants some closure on this subject I went ahead and did a little research. Using the MobyGames database you can see that Jun Tsuda one of Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash's Directors is listed as working for Vanpool Inc. If you then look at the games that Vanpool Inc has made and compare the credits to the team that made Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash you will find that many people worked on Vanpools later games. So more than likely Skip has been sold to Vanpool or some other similar process. A disappointing end but hey we will always have Chibi-Robo.
TL;DR Skip is dead and probably run by Vanpool Inc.
Skip the company is down
You deserve way more subs
Skip's official site has been down since late March (current date: July 02, 2022). Things are looking very, very bad.
I wanna believe that if Nintendo wanted skip to shutdown skip would of shutdown by now.
After 15 years I'm still enamored with the first chibi robo. I was filled with such wonder as a kid playing a game where you were so small and everything so big. I'm still upset it never evolved as a series. It could have been beautiful…
It’s possible that they’ve just been working on a very large project, and game companies now a days can be bad at communication at times.
to those of you who may not know, there was a chibi robo game that never left japan but gameplay wise is very similar to the first. while you may be disappointed that you cant read Japanese, I have some good news for you, you don't have to! there was an English patch released for the the ds japan exclusive "chibi-robo happy Richie osaji" and if you know how to use an emulator you can play it yourself. I hope this news makes you as happy as when I first found out about it.
The amount of research in this video is more extensive than the entirety I did in college. Really can’t get over how deep you went – ridiculously impressed!
Zip lash was a commercial failure because it sold horribly (its bad). People play Chibi-Robo to clean and create happiness, they dont play Chibi-Robo to be a subpar platformer.
I dont know what they were thinking when they made zip lash, I remember one of the developers saying it would be difficult for younger children to play a regular Chibi-Robo game but like- what? and then saying "this might be the last chance for chibi-robo to be successful" when you just outright kill the character in cold blood by making the last game a different genre?
Man, the last thing I can hope for is the GC game being ported to switch.
I want chibi-robo for smash so bad XD
It's such an underrated series. Could have had great potential.
found your channel while looking for shaman king gba info…and i've been wondering about whats been going on with skip for a while now! 🙂 thankyou
First AlphaDream is dead and it may as well be that Skip might be dead in the water as well. This company might as well sell the rights of Chibi Robo to Nintendo so another smart company that understands Chibi Robo can make a great game for Switch. They made a huge mistake of releasing a spinoff for 3DS and rightfully so people (the fanbase) got pissed at it. I doubt we will get the first HD new Chibi Robo for the Switch but I'm not holding my breath given it's been more than seven years since no new console game has been released from them. They know the fanbase needs the classic style gameplay back. Not a Mario platformer ripoff (Ironic given the game is published by Nintendo) you know what I mean? I mean at least Smash Bros is keeping the cute robot alive. I just don't want them to close down like AlphaDream and aspect to the newer games market. (As in being smart for once)
This video is excellent, why hasn't it reached even 1.000 views???
This video deserves 10000 views.
It's such a shame Chibi-Robo for Gamecube came out in North America just 8 months before the Wii was released. The Wii port was never released in the US, and Chibi-Robo Park Patrol was a Walmart exclusive. It feels like Chibi-Robo never had a chance in the U.S. I loved the Gamecube game and Park Patrol. I didn't really care for Zip-Lash or Photo Finder. I would love to see the Gamecube game released on Switch.
I think their situation is more or less the same as Mitchell Corporation: they ceased operation, but the legal entity is still there. Nintendo (or anyone else) can still contact them if they can find a way to, but don't expect anything beyond those cameos you see in Smash.
Ay, Nintendo Life mentioned your video and I will say that it was well made! Considering how Skip has been quiet for some time now, I hope they can still make games despite the failure of Zip-Lash.
Thoughts during the video:
oh. x20
Seriously though, while I love the Chibi-Robo series, I can see why it went downhill after they started doing things that where not exactly the most logical.
Selling an entry only at Walmart, putting multiple entries on a underpowered console (DS), alienating fans with a platformer and picture game, ECT.
I'll hold out hope Skip is still going, but after line about Zip-lash being the last chance, -(°n°)/-.
