Meet the Semi-Automated Mason or SAM, a robot that is so good at building walls it could take over the construction industry. Created by New York-based company Construction Robotics, the brick-laying robot promises to both increase productivity while reducing overall labor costs.
While the efficiency on construction sites has been stagnant in the last 20 to 30 years, manufacturing efficiency has increased significantly due to robotics and technology. Construction Robotics created SAM to solve that problem. SAM requires a human partner to smooth over the works, but the heavy lifting is left to the bot.
The robot can lay bricks at least three times faster than humans – and it never gets tired or makes mistakes. VICE News went to a construction site in Virginia to see SAM at work.

The robot took his job… But they had to hire 3 people to operate the robot.. Very efficient guys, I can see how close Skynet is to reality
Ruff as assholes
It lays 3000 per day compared to 1000 for person……but needs another 2 ppl with it 🤣🤣🤷♂️
Haha the guy with man boobs and an effeminate voice. "Efficiency on construction sites has gone down the last 20-30 years." U can hop out there and try it yourself.
Id love to get into masonry, i just dont want to spend a year getting the qualification of simple things.
You got to be an evil person to create a machine to put men out of work , so they can't support there families
I’m all for technology if it takes the work away from humans as long as our rent gets capped in the process !
Just how long until it becomes a household appliance.
As long as bricks are made from clay you’ll need a human eye to lay them. Bricks are a natural material and consequently not every bricks the same size. If you set a machine to lay every brick identically it would look horrendous
Good luck putting that on a scaffold
ol' John Henry would have that thing scattered across a hill.
1000 a day by a human in the US British bricklayers average 2000+ per day
theres a british guy charlie collinson can do 3400 baby
Now trump can use
What happens when there are no people left working to actually buy the products that the robots are making? Big business needs to understand they need people with a disposable income to buy their products not thousands of unemployed
Fk this machine and the guy who made it.
The interviewer is implying that masonary workers will loose their jobs in the future.
Meanwhile the masonary workers are not that concerned about it.
Theres less and less tradesmen as the year goes on, and the only way to meet the deman is automating it. Yes some jobs might be automated but less and less people are working these kinds of jobs.
People talking about how the robot needs support workers and that it means it won't replace real workers. The support side will be automated, just need a bot to shuffle bricks to it. Mortar as well. Finishing will be automated, that's only a matter of time. As for the smaller sections? There will come a machine with longer reach and better mobility. You are looking at the equivalent of the early horse drawn sickle mowers. Somewhat better than humans, not worth it for smaller jobs. But with time there was no competition.
Need 10 people to clean up after it lol , smudges everywhere
Crap! Don't let Trump see this!
Those electrician robots never clear up after themselves!
Compared to today, in 2030, the workforce of masons and other construction workers, will be reduced with at least 50%.
Lmao, this was pathetic and completely biased. Such a weird anti-progress sentiment being pushed.
It's obviously a lie to say it lays bricks three times faster ,when most of the job is being done by humans helping the robot.
Takes 2-4 workers to go half the speed of a good bricklayer ??
