Looks to me that the majority of the deliveries where in china, meaning nearly all of the increases was from that area where there are 100+ electric car companies. I don't see how you can be so upbeat when both gigafactories in texas and berlin are so far behind. Being behind a year on the Cybertruck is going to cost them alot of sales since 2 other manufacturers are going to beat them to market in the largest US vehicle segment.
we love spacex & we just got our S dual motor fsd while the tri/4? motor fsd cybertruck gets here. i'm all in TSLA & i love all Elon Musk does & will keep doing..we've drove from California to Boca Chica to see the Star Ship & it was so awesome to see it getting built in person!! we have LOTS of SOLAR & backup battery system to charge them both
I agree with your general comments regarding increased profitability for this quarter, however are you not concerned that they may warn about expectations for Q1 2022? Specifically that they have all the costs of giga taxis and giga Berlin, without any of the revenue for vehicle production, that they were expecting to have occurred by now from those vehicles plants 😬!
I am so happy for TSLA employees and us investors.

I got curious and tried looking up the Q4 reports for GM, should be able to find it on their website right? I could not find it there.
Dave, Your Q1 forecast is a “downer” on Q4 key metrics . I get the human psych element of Q4 was “Incredible” , so “Incredible” it cant possibly grow from here and you want to remain “credible” and Q1 has historically been a week Qtr ( but not 2022) . There is much in terms of innovation and catalysts to balance this prudence in Q1 .Is there anything else i should know to add to the debit side of the expectation ? Thanks for your valuable contribution .

There will be a significant step up in operating expense when Berlin and Austin factories begin production and deliver vehicles in Q1 2022. Expect a 2 or 3 quarter dip in gross margins going forward, but overall the year will be great.

Thanks Dave. My only concern is that as Shanghai production has exceeded Fremont and will continue onward, ASPs will decrease. I’ve heard that Shanghai margins are quite good, but this may still impact EPS estimates.
Dear Dave, many thanks for your explanation. Recently I have been reading Tim Higgins’ Power Play and Edward Niedermeyer’s Ludicrous. In particular, Edward’s book is pointing out Tesla’s cultural issues and also potential risks from engineering point of views. As a shareholder, I surely am happy with this year’s results. Did you happen to read it. I would like to know your general views, if possible..
Dave – I don’t think your Avg sell price of $50k is nearly enough. Q4 should all be closer to $65k.

The thing that a lot of people (even Tesla fans) don't realize is that Tesla's advantage is that they produce relatively few models yet have incredible sales numbers with mainly two models. It's as if Honda or Toyota just focused on their top four selling models. This is in stark contrast with the likes of other manufacturers who claim they will have 30 EV models by so-and-so year. If you have 30 models, that incurs cost in just producing each of those models, in terms of R&D, advertising, branding, etc etc…. Each extra model is additional cost and complexity that weighs on the capital efficiency.
Meanwhile, Tesla has just the costs of the 3 and Y, S and X, and all the costs for developing those have already been paid and recouped, which makes the car that much more profitable. Sure, Tesla will have additional models over time (and eventually new versions of existing models), but it's clear Tesla will milk their designs for a lot longer than existing brands (I mean, who could have seen how much the Plaid would reinvigorate Model S sales?). I believe part of this is that the interior interface receives constant updates that make older cars still feel fresh and up-to-date.
Dave, one thing you might want to know for the price hike. Mostly it’s not taken into consideration yet i think at least in Q4. I live in Canada, ordered my Y in August (old price), delivery was 2 weeks ago (old price). So, the new price will take effect mostly in Q1 and Q2 i think. Unless this wait time is only for non-US country…

Dave: first off thanks for being a measured and informative pillar for Tesla investors. Can you ask Dan Ives why some of the huge initiatives such as Bots with unlimited TAMs are not reflected in the stock price? Seems crazy that it’s being essentially ignored by analysts and the investment community when there’s reasonable probability FSD or Bots etc. will be huge revenue drivers.
