After much searching, I found the perfect pruning shears! These Japanese made bypass pruning shears are top quality at an unreal price: 70% less expensive than the popular benchmark Felco F2’s! Despite the low price, these pruners offer unbelievable quality on a budget.
The pruners are linked in my Amazon Storefront* under “Garden Accessories”:

I’ve wanted to replace my cheap bypass pruners for awhile, but there is a problem: the market is flooded with cheap pruners of low quality that I did not want. Another solution is to buy high quality Felco pruning shears, but they are very expensive. There are few options for high quality bypass pruners at a reasonable price.
These Japanese made pruning shears are the solution! The quality is top notch at a shockingly low price. These shears are less expensive than some of the questionable knock-off brands out there, yet after handling and using these shears for several pruning jobs, I’m blown away. They may be the best value out there for budget-minded gardeners!

If you decide to order these pruners, I'd love to hear YOUR review after you use them. I was WOW'd out of the box for the price! Please leave an honest review and let us know how you think they perform for the price range.
Just ordered a pair… thank you! When l go steel cutting tools l go either Japanese or German. Just picked up the Silky saw Katana Boy on Amazon. Cut our first Christmas tree the other day with it! I think the tree fell in 5 or 6 pulls!
Thanks, I even found them on Spanish amazon. Needed a new pair. 😀
Thanks for the tip on the pruners Anthony, I took your tip on the large planters you recommended on another video and I was blown away by the better quality pots for a very reasonable price + 1 extra pot was included in shipment.
I bought 2 of these, one for myself and 1 for a friend – we both love them. My sister tried them out when we were finishing up the garden and so I shared your garden site with her.
I think it's best to purchase them from your garden store rather than elsewhere because there is an imitation being offered by Amazon, that is made in China…looks the same, but do not be fooled.
What's the Japanese brand name?
Its got Chinesium in them!!!…Seller in Guangdong Chinaaaa….according to my {cultivate} software which works through Amazon…They just did a better job than they usually do and improved the fit and finish….Dont feel bad they lie to everyone and they are getting worse…,,, Did you call the company?…Amazon???….I know your intentions were good but never underestimate the skulduggerous nature of the chinesiums….
Well, you introduced me to it, so whatever you get for that link is well earned. Your link looks like a good place to shop.
I don't see a link to the product… Can you send?
that looks like an ARS knock off. Most likely made in China. SK5 Japanese steel.
ARS no doubt better than Felco. Cheaper and better.
Are these better than the Fiskars?
These are not Japanese! I am a native speaker and reader of Japanese and I can tell you that the writing on their package is in horrible Japanese grammar. The writing was clearly in Chinese and someone used Google translate or something to make crappy Japanese.
The stamp is a lie. Look on Amazon and until 2022 there used to be a sticker on the package that said "Made in China" while the package itself falsely claimed "Made in Japan". These are fake. I bought these and returned them to Amazon and reported it as a fraud.
They may be better quality than most stuff made in China, but these are not as good as real Japanese pruners or shears.
Business address of company selling shears “Foshan
Guangdong
528000
CN”
They might be good, but I would suspect they are made in China.
Those shears are fabulous. The cut is so clean and precise and so easy on the grip that you would think it was a power tool. I cannot recommend them too highly. I really appreciate the tip.
Well maybe try sharpening your old pruners before comparing them to a brand new set.
Just ordered two pairs through your link, based on your recommendation. Looking forward to trying them out!
Speaking of pruners I'm looking forward to watching your Espalier figs project this year!
Just got my pruners today and went out and trimmed my everbearing raspberries. Worked like a charm, nice sharp cuts (I cut on an angel as to not let moisture collect).
What else I really like about them is when comes time to sharpen the blade, it removes easily without taking the whole damn thing apart, plus a nice large and secure locking mechanism.
Thank you once again for passing this find along.
I always wipe my steel implements with linseed oil after use, they never rust. I think that oily old rag is at least 10 years old.
Thanks!
mine was called Baishite professional pruner. it makes a perfect cut honestly
Can you purchase replacement parts for them as you can with the Felcos?
i think i have one of those pruners
I think it's a misnomer that high-carbon / alloy steel is always better for tools. You really have to consider the environment it's used in. Modern stainless steels for knives are very good (I use that term VERY loosely – degree of "stainless-ness" as a very broad spectrum). Just look at alloys like 20CV or M390, which are super premium stainless alloys. With that said I do really like some of the less-stainless alloys as you can usually pick up a little more toughness and edge retention (3V, cruwear, etc).
Thank you so much for the recommendation. I went to buy a pair through your link and was extra pleased to note that they offer a size for smaller hands (me)! Sold!
I could probably use a second pair of bypass hand pruners, but I'm not sure I'd be able to hop in without knowing I could buy replacement parts (maybe the low price is enough to give it a try…).
I've been looking at ARS (made in Japan) to complement my Felco's (I have a 2 and a 20, which is a short handled lopper). I do really like the Japanese tools, they're very high quality. I have a pair of ARS 300DX needlenose hand shears that are really nice for harvesting fruit. My saws are all Silky, super nice!
At this point, anything but Chinese whenever possible.
I just ordered them and will give them a try. I read the reviews and apparently there’s some drama going on claiming these are actually made in China. They are manufactured in China but the country of origin is Japan. If they’re good quality though I don’t care. I was up last night scouring Amazon trying to find a new pair and your video just happen to come up. 👍🏼
I had also found a pair that said German made, but after reading the reviews and investigating apparently the coloring was being called German but it was manufactured in China. Sneaky.
Awe… Dale… 🥰🥰
Great video on comparing pruning shears, thanks for sharing and take care 🙂
those style of springs have rust issues as far as I've seen though.
Thank you. Fantastic timing. I'm in need of pruning shears, but do not have the $ for the expense brand. However, I don't want a cheap pair.
Thank you so much for recommending these! I have a young variegated eureka lemon tree that got some frost damage this year. I really needed some good shears to prune off the damage. I just ordered a pair of the pruners and can’t wait to use them. Thanks again.
Also Dale needs a new toy. My doggo recommends he try a stuffing-free toy. Jasmine (doggo) loves the way they flop about when shaken… like dead things.
