In this video I will cover what I think are the 5 best ASX brokers (SelfWealth vs Pearler vs Superhero vs OpenTrader vs ThinkMarkets) in terms of cost available in Australia and how they compare to each other across 8 main factors. Brokerage, Minimum investment amount, US Shares, CHESS status, Instant deposits, Account keeping fees, Market/limit orders, Mobile app experience
And at the end of the video I’ll provide what I think are the best low cost Australian ASX broker investing platforms to use from these top 5, depending on your preferences and needs.

## SelfWealth Review
In my opinion, SelfWealth is a great way for Aussies to buy shares, the $9.50 flat-fee CHESS-sponsored structure, and general no fuss, no frills, simple and easy to use system makes it a great choice for people chasing financial independence. Even though it might take a while for transfers to go through, and it can take a while to get customer support, its a small price to pay for such cheap brokerage, with the comfort of a company that’s been around for a while now with a good track record.
## Superhero Review
Superhero provides all the tools you need to make share investments and put your money to work for you – all at a super low cost (or in some cases no cost). You can start by investing as little as $100, and there’s a dashboard that allows you to access your portfolio at the touch of a button. Overall, it’s accessible, easy to understand, and super affordable, with the one downside (which may be a blocker for some) of no CHESS sponsorship on the holdings.
## ThinkMarkets Review
Overall ThinkMarkets is actually a great offering, with low cost brokerage of only $8, with the added security of having your own CHESS sponsored HIN.
## Pearler Review
Pearler is a great new entrant in the low-cost broker space in Australia, and is actually offering some unique features that make it stand out from others. Whilst it isn’t the cheapest in any single area, it does make up for it with those features, and is still a low cost option with the security of CHESS sponsorship.
## OpenTrader Review
In conclusion I think OpenTrader is an easy to use platform that has a place in the market for secure CHESS sponsored trading, for users just starting out with trades up to $5,000. If you’re looking to trade for values more than $5,000 it makes more sense to use one of the other brokers in this list, as OpenTraders brokerage then becomes $10.

so happy you are back, learning so much from you.
hey do you know any broker that offers legal ownership of stocks to its customers giving us an SRN? fuck im trying to dividend reinvest my coca cola stocks i purchased through selfwealth and I dont think i will be able to do it as i only have beneficial ownership of the stocks through philip capital.
Is there anyway we can secure US stocks under our own name like the CHESS sponsored HIN we have here in Australia. It just sucks ass that my US stocks are not under my name and I cannot dividend reinvest these stocks.
Hey Michael, thanks for your great videos. ..I have a question about Index funds and ETF's. I am wondering if they have the exact same outcome or are Index funds still better/safer? So basically, if I would put the exact same amount of money into VVIAX and VTV and then don't touch them for let's say 30 years, would there be any difference? … The reason why I am asking is beacuse I am also in Australia and I would prefer using one brokerage app (CHESS sponsored) where I don't need to worry about Foreign Exchange etc., which would mean I can only go for the ETF versions of US index funds. .. But if there is a massive advantage in terms of return/dividend with Index Funds then I would consider using a different app like STAKE. I would appreciate a comment on this. Thank you so much!
Awesome video, Do you think you could do a review on Stake? or even a stake vs Pearler video? thanks
Pearler sounds a little like the Aus version of Etoro? Whats your take on Etoro? Thanks for the great info
Can you set up dividend reinvestment with superhero (not being CHESS)?
nice vid
Please do an in-depth review of Superhero! one thing to add next time is W-8BEN forms for US stocks but thanks for an insightful video!
Pls come back more frequently. You always made wonderful vidos.
Thanks for the great video! Does any platform offer Dividends reinvestment?
I am surprised IG wasn't on your list?
do you use Pearler as your broker platform?
I’m SO happy you’re back 🙂
Hi Michael, good to see that you are posting new videos again! I really liked your video on intro to investing in ETFs. It helped me kick start my own journey in investing. Looking forward to more quality content from you.
Cheers mate!
Superhero also has a super option where you can use your superannuation to invest in stocks of your choice.
In terms of technical indicators, can you please make a video on which brokerages provide these and the costs involved? The website for Opentrader shows that they provide technical indicators but only for premium customers.
I am looking for something similar to Zerodha from India where the brokerage is low and there are many free indicators to use. Is there any similar product available?
Could you do an in-depth review of ThinkMarkets in your next video? Would be keen to find out more about the platform given that hardly anyone talks about it
Why isn't Spaceship included in this video?
Great video! Any thoughts about sharemeup micro investing app? Thanks!
I tried both Superhero & Selfwealth. I have checked with SW about transferring holdings from Superhero. The response "Superhero operate under the custodian model, so technically the shares are in their name, just held on your behalf. You will still be able to do a broker to broker transfer as long as the account details with SH are exactly the same as they are with SelfWealth. A broker to broker transfer is free of charge." So I thinking buying EFT for free via Superhero & then every 2-3 months just transfer to your preferred platform will save you a bit over the long term.
Great video! Just switching now from VPI to Pearler (which I signed up for back in Dec 2022) due to VPI no longer having free Vanguard ETF brokerage with their cost changes effective later this month. I will say that in your video you note that Pearler doesn't have a mobile app, but they do. It's not great but isn't too bad. Main reason I use Pearler over the others in your list is their auto-invest feature, CHESS sponsorship, DRP available which wasn't available with VPI and the flat rate of $9.50. Even though Think Markets is cheaper, I don't mind paying a small % more for the convenience of the auto-invest feature as I'm in it for the long-term.
Hey, great video as always! Off topic but what jacket is that?
Thanks Michael. What would you recommend if I need to but Japan and Hong Kong shares (i.e. non US shares)?
Hi Michael , great vid thanks ! With regards to superhero if you have bought shares with them that do pay dividends but you haven’t got a hin how would you go about receiving said dividends? Thanks again .
Great Video thanks Michael, would you recommend using Pearler for Australian ETFs and using Stake for US/global ETFs?
Michael, SO much value in this video. First no BS comparison I’ve found. I’ve been using self wealth but am seriously considering switching to Pearler now!
Superhero sounds awesome, but just couldn't chance it in the long run
Although Selfwealth says the minimum trade is $500, I've made a trade for $340, just last month
Isn’t it 500 min for the free EFTS on the pearler platform ?
Hi Michael, really enjoying the content. Do you have a video on how to move from one brokerage to another using HIN?
Great comparison video! Good to see you uploading again. I was just wondering which ASX brokers out of the ones discussed in the video pays dividends straight into the investment account (either as cash or possibly reinvested) rather than using a share registry.
I use CMC markets. What do you think of it?
I think it will be Pearler for me – sounds like it would suit my situation really well. Great video there, Michael.
