Bitcoin using Tesla Actual Attempt! W/ Bitmain Antminer S9
Ver Vídeo: Bitcoin using Tesla Actual Attempt! W/ Bitmain Antminer S9
So I actually tried it! I used the Bitmain Antminer S9, which is currently the most efficient publicly available Bitcoin miner, at at ~0.1 Joule per GH/s. The unit I use, is capable of ~13.5TH/s, and is 2.5x more efficient then the previous generation of Antminers, the S7.

I connect the Antminer S9 to the Model S via a 12v to 240v power inverter.
Ideally, one would prefer to tap into the high voltage battery pack directly. This poses a couple problems however. 1; where to connect. The High Voltage battery is only connected and online when the vehicle is charging, in use, or the car is charging the 12v Aux battery. 2; The voltage of the main battery pack is as high as 404v. One would need another DC to DC converter to bring that voltage down, then invert it to power the Mining Equipment, or, a DC to DC converter capable of going directly to the miner via DC. 3: Tapping into the main battery in just about any way will void that nice, shiny, 8 year infinite mile warranty.
Going through the 12v Aux battery also poses problems. Such as the capacity of that battery is rather low. On it’s own, it can’t supply enough power to power the mining equipment for any real length of time. The car’s DC to DC converter, is about 600 watt capacity. It’s designed to keep the battery charged, and power the on-board electronics such as headlights, seat heater, dash and center screens/computers. It was not designed to provide high high power continuously that mining equipment would require.
In the end, the test was a Bust. Fun to do. Who else on this planet has Actually really honestly attempted to mine bit coin using a Electric Car as a power source? I think we made records here. The miner wouldn’t stay on at full power. Removed 1 hash board, at 2/3 capacity, still did not want to run. at 1/3 capacity, with a draw of 450wh, it stayed powered up, but would just not start mining.

Papa Elon is bitcoin
Even better if bitcoin mining using rapberri pi 3 or 4 and using USB asic NEWPAC miners. This way it does not suck on the battery so hard.
He just try to getting back his money from losing trading…n try to trick u with ac-dc-ac…
DC->AC->DC? Sounds inefficient.
If you rent a tesla, can you make profit if you mine bitcoin instead of driving it?
Did you say you had 2 more Bitmain Antminer S9's in the house. Even 1 is nearly $5,000 on the internet. How can you afford the cost? I trust you are not trying them out and returning them for a refund. Instead of trying this folly why don't you sell the gadgets? Stupid is as stupid does.
More interesting than a Teslacoin to me would be if Tesla would start accepting cryptocurrencies for their cars!
MAN those antminers are LOUD AF
a brick of 5-6 gtx 1080s with triplefan setups would be much more quiet (5x gtx1080 = $25-30usd/day nicehash)
but, anyone actually trying this would be hooked into the actual batterypacks of the car.
myself and many others REALLY WANT to use our tesla cars with 2WAY-CHARGING
to dump power back into out powerwalls in case of a power outtage or some such
And why actually Tesla coin mining would be better than any other mining? Why Elon should care about somebody trying to mine using Tesla's electricity and resources? Why Tesla should even care about something not related to the car and driving it? I am not even talking that mining speed of Tesla video processor is very small to specifically designed mining machine. Elon should answer you: if you are interested in mining go and use your mining machine, not a Tesla car.
Tesla dc-dc is higher than 600w. All devices in tesla would add up to more than 600 watts and its not a problem. If I recall its closer to 2400 watts. But still not a great idea!
I'm not interested in mining… But, with that much processing power, I bet one mining machine could be good for a killer game of Space Invaders.
You can make More money than any of these with being a Greater at Walmart. IMHO. 👍
also, there is a huge power loss going on in that loop, you have a 12v battery connected to a 240 v inverter that is connected to a 12v power supply, why not just pull the power straight from the battery into the miner? (yellow is 12v, black is ground)
how much have you actually mined with those miners
Just Plug it in a PUBLIC outet, ans use This power
The underlying test was about how much money (in kWh) you can save getting free power from a supercharger and using it at your house. If the DC-DC converter only can do 600 Watts, then it seems all one can get is 15 kWh/day, which is only $1.50-$3.00 per day. Clearly not worth it.
So in order to get enough power to be worth it, you need to find a way to tap into the main battery and power your house with a 3000 watt (continuous) inverter, getting about 72 kw, so you can get $7.20-$14 per day.
You would have to sell about 200kwh per day at $0.20/kWh just to have it make the car payment, and your car would spend all day charging and discharging.
Really the only way to profit from free supercharging is to drive it for business and use free supercharging.
Nice try. Maybe a 4 GPU ETH rig is less demanding. That could add up to 90-120 MHs. And over 300 bucks revenue right now a month. That setup should max out around 500-600W after tweaking.
Still bogus idea…but at least the DC DC of the car could keep up…maybe :p.
Maybe it would be better to do this with a Nissan Leaf? The DC to DC converters (at least in the UK version) are capable of sustaining 1.7kW output apparently. There's plenty of free L2 chargers about.
Yep
