you could do with some sheep fitted with scuba gear to eat that grass for you 😆😆
OBVIOUSLY VERY FEW BOATS IF ANY DO THAT CANAL…..
Wow this trip is like being on the Amazon! You’re a legend xx
I just found your channel, and grew up in York. This is so exciting for me! The stress of those weeds! Keep going. Coffee’s on its way..😊
reached Melbourne ,blimey its a very long canal lol
You are one Gutsy Man, Well Done
A 3-tine fork on the end of the pole instead of a boathook would probably be better for shifting that stuff.
I believe there is such a thing as a narrowboat with a rear paddle wheel instead of a propellor. I've never seen one, but it would need to have the axis of the paddle wheel quite high as canals don't have much depth. Either the engine would need to be mounted on the stern deck, rather than below it, or else the drive shaft would have to be driven by a gear chain from below (less efficient).
The point is that once that had been up a canal like the Pocklington a lot of the weed would be torn out and it would be more navigable for ordinary narrowboats. It would leave the unrooted weed floating free on the surface, of course, so one boat coming afterwards at more than the usually acceptable speed might be useful to create a sufficient bow wave to push the ripped out weed to the banks. Excess speed should be once only, of course. Nobody would want to damage the banks of a canal like this.
That Monk guy… will really love the new perspective/angel he gets now.
Hope CRT have seen your vlog Will….they should get the weed boat up there…..well done mate
Hi Will well done you stuck to it and I admire that. Great video keep it up pal. Thank you.
Great to see you doing some of the less well known canals and such great countryside
Glad you got through OK 👍
🤣🤣 so funny poor tiller man ..but you persevered ..Great vlog not many would of done that ..but we your followers knew you were more than capable…and your great sense of humour thank you 😊..
Well done Will, you deserve a medal for this trip never mind the Silver Propeller. Just a thought but would a proper steel garden rake help in shifting all the wild triffids covering the cut? Keep going mate this is fascinating viewing, we are all urging you on every foot of the way
Here you go Will, something to stretch your chuckle muscle.
The Abusive Parrot
A lady walks into a pet shop. There is a parrot in a cage sat on the counter. As the parrot catches sight of the lady he says in a very loud squawky voice
“You are without doubt the ugliest woman it’s ever been my misfortune to see!”
The lady is visibly shocked and upset. The Pet Shop owner rushes across, apologising profusely for the birds behaviour and assuring the woman he would remedy the problem before her next visit.
A week later the woman again visits the shop. Opening the door she sees the parrot in his cage on the counter. The bird turns and catches sight of her but says nothing. He just stares malevolently at her. Having collected up what she wants from around the shop she approaches the counter. The parrot watches her all the way. As she comes close the parrot leans forward and whispers “you know what I’m thinking don’t you!”
Hi ya Will, glad you made it to Melbourne. I were with you all the way. Do they do Platinum propellers?
Incidentally, was that an Orange tip butterfly I saw in the closing credits.? Take care mate. B.
YOUR anxiety levels are up? I only had to read the word Pocklington and mine shot up too. Good on yer mate for going for it. Nothing ventured and all that. Well worth it. Great looking waterway Will.
Need newswire Bridge building nr wanwdsworth
Well done ! You will become known as the ‘Bear Grylls’ of British Waterways. Your celebrity presence got them clearing some weeds ( if a bit late ).
Grit and determination love it never say never man after my own 💓
Is like Driffield canal they a have been trying to open it but you can get on the river Hull to bevrley but pokligton is a lovey place will I live nr Driffield good look all bast and enjoy
That’s the second time this week I’ve heard that Gym joke. Bargain loving brits in the Sun 😂😂😂😂😎. Keep going Will 👍🏼
Well there ya go, and who said ya wouldnt make it? Crikey, I think it was you. You've got to stop having those estrogen tablets in you tea. You with your, pretty, lovely, amazing , beautiful, seeing rainbows and butterflies everywhere. It might come right, now your tillers pointing upwards, but thinking about it, it could get worse. So what do we do now that we've earned the silver propeller, us all offering moral support, think we're entitled to a share. We could pass it around each watcher having it for a year, then passing it on. A bit risky with them selling quite well on ebay, 3 quid each. Happy boating mate, thanks and do take care. (I hope nobody else reads this rubbish) What did they say at the shop about the canal? You found a butterfly, then you were gone.
Too bad you don't have a long barge pole and you could just push your way through all of the weeds. Save the engine and diesel! Call yourself gondolier Will.
Stay safe and well.
Keep going Will can’t wait to see you get through this praying for you xxx hope Sir Monk is ok on the Tiller after the bending !!! X
You go any further up there and you're a bloody looneytic Will
Good show Will you got to Melbourne moorings . Going through that weed you could have done a Humphrey Bogart in the movie The African Queen and jumped in and pulled your boat through , ha , as if . That thing you bent is called the TILLER 🙂
Sorry but my dog is always on lead. One 6 foot the other 25 feet!
Hi Will. Much more daring than me!
Congratulations! We knew you’d make it!
Do you think they came out to do some maintenance because of your vlogs? Probably not, since the delay in publishing versus the actual doing. Hope that makes the return trip easier.
I kept thinking you would run out of fuel. 😬
Nice one will Sod’s law init dredgers come down after all that if you get stuck in there you wud have to find a horse to pull you out .old tiller man nearly had his last rights ..it looks well nice round there .. Cheers Will 🙂🔧⛳️✌️
Hey Will. Delighted to see you are one of what must be very few indeed to make the herculean effort required to press on through nature's obstructions to reach Melbourne. I do hooe you go up further to the head of navigation where the canal turns north, like minimalist did. I have walked the whole canal both ways over a couple of visits by car and it is truly beauriful. Rock on! There's a spacious free car park right at the end of the canal (which you can't sail to), and a lay-by to park in by that bridge you tied up under. When you said no one was likely to walk under the bridge, I thought, just my luck I would! Brilliant video.👍
Don't scroll past your pinned post now… I don't want to see spoilers as I write this and before I watch your continuing endeavour 🙂
Cant believe you nearly killed Tiller man 😯 you really do deserve that silver propeller after all that stress, well done for not cracking up. 😂
How much would you have had to pay to custom bend your tiller? You'll be the envy of t'marina.
Wall Dun.will with temiaton and ware.the withe a way.all the best and good.look
Get your speedos on and jump in!
Good stuff Will, a well deserved Silver propeller, how many do you have now?
OMG Mate. I want to come to England just for the purpose of cleaning the canal system. I'd just need 3 boats. 2 different types of weeders and a converted work boat to dewater and pelletize the weed. 24 months to get it done and train a staff to do it and boiler plate a distribution system for the weed pellets to supplement grazing feed for the nations farmers. But alas no billionaires like me enough to spare the dosh. 😉
You deserve a medal if you come up Calder and Hebble locks a bit small and you could do a little more damage to swan neck on the fixed platforms ….
