Micro-marring with foam pads
Foam cutting pads have a SHARPNESS to them. This can lead to micro-marring on soft paint.
Production Detailing using an AIO or one-step cleaner/wax
When detailing for money – you should have multiple packages so you have a package or process for every customer and their BUDGET and NEEDS. Not everyone is looking for a multiple-step Show Car Detail for their 2014 Honda 4-Door Accord.
When it comes to you One-Step Package, it STARTS with NOT promising to remove 100% of all the swirls and scratches. That’s Package 2 or 3.
You Package 1 is using an AIO and doing the normal 8 section passes and whatever comes out comes out. Thus you don’t need to use a foam cutting pad as you never promised 100% paint correction. And too often if you use a foam cutting pad – the pad will leave micro-marring. If you’re ONE STEP product leaves micro-marring and forces you to re-polish the car with a less aggressive pad to remove the micro-marring – your one-step package just became a 2-step package and now you’re losing money.

Love the demonstration at the beginning! With tips!
was curious on polishing/compounding hard paint is it wise to go with a more aggressive pad before going with a more aggressive compound? or Vise versa? Thanks for your time.
i wonder if hot water promotes the velcro to come off
Not to many youngsters are interested in things that require manual labor good information thanks
@1:04:05homie got cut off (so let's talk about how often you clean your pads) 🤣😂🤣 dang sounded like he had a good 18 year old story 🤣 jacked up Mike
Hi is that a glass cleaning cloth
Black stuff comes off onto the pads could also be if the car has single-stage paint and especially if it’s an older or classic car with its original paint. Those single stage paints sometimes had lead in them and the dark on the pad is the lead from the paint.
Awesome content.
Had to stop listening to all the Yacking. Just wanted to find out if there is any significance to different color of foam pads. And different textures and patterns on the foam. I'll find out somewhere else.
Great MyBest.Tools item.😓🤣😀😎 Superior quality.
I think the history you often provide in your videos makes a huge difference. It gives newbies and pros alike a reason behind why they do what they do. Having a reason is how one gets great results, learns to experiment, and makes a process their own. Thank you!

Great buffer/polisher MyBest.Tools Love the slow start and variable speed. Strong, quiet motor. Costs a little more but worth every penny. Great price on Amazon.
Excellent excellent video Mike. Greetings from Germany.
I painted my old car using rust oleum sprayed from a LPHV paint gun. It turned out awesome. I want to wet sand and buff it now. I have a 7” electric polisher but don’t know what pad I should use. I’m wet sanding with 2000 grit and have McGuires ultimate polishing compound. Could you suggest what type pads I should use?

Good information but the camera guy constantly interrupting is super annoying.
that guy behind the camera needs to shut up
I was told they create heat is this true
For final polish should you use sheepskin covered pad for final glaze
I detail my own vehicles including my 30' motorhome. However, I'm having problems with my motorhome. I'm using a Meguiar’s D.A. that seems to be to small for the large areas of the motorhome. What do you recommend for pads to polish and wax applications? Rotory or D.A. machines?
Mike If you want to preserve those old pads for a showcase
Just soak it really good with fabric protectant and they will last forever as long as they’re not handle too much
I took Mike's class with a group of newbies and we all learned more than we could have imagined. He had every kind of polisher, pad, and product for us to try and made us understand the essentials. We all migrated from one guy's car to the next, and everybody got paint correction/swirls removed. A couple of us got ceramic coated. Highly recommend.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've learned a lot from this video. When I learned how to polish cars, it was way back in the days of lacquer finishes and wool bonnets, using machines similar to the vintage Rupes in the video. I've recently ordered a new DA and will be purchasing dozens of foam pads.
How do you know when its a soft or hard paint?
How do you clean the pads for next time or is that necessary?
When yourself went to the Meguiar's class, did you go too?
Silver polishing cloth
Swirl removers were put in the late 60’s. It was a black liquid
do autogeek sell 3" foam pads
Makita have just come out with a polisher/sander that use's a 3" foam pad
4:58 – what if you have a glass coating on? 🙂
Never realized how much there is to pads. Learned a lot for my own projects. Thank you!
