Brian and Karin Trautman have been living on a sailboat for 10 years, and their boat is set up so they can be off the grid in remote places for months at a time with solar and wind power providing electricity, a water maker that turns salt water into fresh water, multiple freezers and loads of storage space for food, and even a small washing machine on board!
They’ve sailed SV Delos – a 53′ sloop rig ketch – 83,000 nautical miles which is the equivalent of circling the earth at the equator more than 3 times. Their latest adventures include sailing as a family with their 6-month baby, Sierra, and outfitting the boat with a heater so they can explore the Arctic this summer after several years in the Tropics.

LOVED your video! I come from an avid boating family, at least, when Mom and Dad were alive, they couldn't wait to go to the lake and spend all that time on their houseboat. My parents were both Coast Guard Auxiliary members and Dad taught boating safety to the public, mostly boat-owning public. Their houseboat was potentially a Coast Guard facility, and was equipped in such a way that if we had a national emergency of some sort where the maritime force were applied, the Coast Guard would make use of their boat as it was potentially seaworthy. I've also been out at sea in different kinds of vessels with mom and dad, including deep sea fishing in January when the seas run high. Mom, Dad, and I were the only charter "fisherpersons" to not get seasick on one fishing excursion out from a seaport near Vero Beach, Florida.
With a washing machine on-board I can also make it 🙂 Seriously, amazing these people, I wish I had their balls. When they are getting old they can remember really good old memories and they can say we had lived our life.
Like a holiday watching. Farking amazing
If you got the ear canals for it
I lived on my sailboat for 14 years when I was younger. About 94,000 miles logged and probably lots more I didn't log. Best years of my life. I'd love to do it again.
How can there be 6000 odd views giving it the thumbs down I don’t get it. These guys are living the dream.
Always sad when a full blooded Scandinavian breeds down.
It all looks nice only for ignorants.
Living on a boat is a prison. With almost no company makes your crazy. They both are addicted to the internet where their mental life actually exists.
Don't forget these sweet videos are for you in exchange for attention/money.
16:50 hanuman ji, nice
Of course the guy from flag lives on the water good job 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I'm stsrting to think i want to do this instead of buying a house
16:43 there's a small Lord Hanuman Temple??
amazing
What a pretty cool way to live. The only thing I’d worry about is the baby getting sick or hurt out in the middle of the ocean and having to get emergency help.
I wonder if living on a sail boat whilst pregnant makes morning sickness better or worse? I mean, would you have a stronger stomach from all the swaying about and stuff?
Swedish and American sailors are keeping Hindu idol in the Boat. Good to see ..
I see bajrangbali murti …
Have you ever had any trouble with Somali pirates?
You have a Hanuman idol
The secret of this self-sufficient sailing boat is a self-sufficient bank account.
I'd love to do that
This is really not easy as you tought , but really amazing life experience
I hope you will go to the philippines soon
