I got to say, I've always been an Enterprise guy whenever I'm looking to rent a car. But this decision has converted me to Hertz. As a Tesla owner, I look forward to being able to continue the Tesla experience whenever I travel and need to rent a car.
This is so great! I would 100% rent a fully EV vehicle like Tesla!
Good point … Hertz jumping into the Robotaxi business long before we could have imagined it, rather than ridiculing Tesla out of fear that their space was being usurped …
It’s quite hilarious reading most of the comments here suggesting that FSD and robotaxis are essentially here, and just about to be released!!!!
Folks, FSD IS NOWHERE NEAR level 5 autonomy (ie without a human driver)
It will be many, many years before we see robotaxis on the road.
What does this contract mean for legacy automakers? 🤔
they are getting ready for another "Hertz Global Holdings Inc., which filed for bankruptcy protection in May 2022, said Thursday that its plan will erase more than $5 billion in debt and provide more than $2.2 billion in liquidity. Creditors will be paid in full and existing shareholders will receive more than $1 billion in value."
One more thing I will add is that you should look up Nissan's new Intelligent factory. Very high levels of precision automation. Tesla's M3 and MY UI is also already surpassed by the new models at Mercedes, Nissan and even Ford. Tesla's models have too short life cycles fed by hype. Once the hype is over, people stop buying their models, see the Model S and X. Once they reach 5 years of production, model 3 and Y's will be old tech and swarmed by so many competing models. The Cybertruck and new Roadster are too niche to give Tesla a boost while the Semi is a question mark as Tesla is going to hit a market that has a different level of expectations than their apologetic fans.
Tesla's are too expensive for any rental car business model. There is a reason why there aren't dozens of Lexus cars lined up at rental lots… Would you rent a Tesla at 150 dollars a day over a Camry at 50 dollars a day? I doubt anyone would. Remember also that car rental is a very seasonal business. Sometimes cars sit for days without rentals and the car keep depreciating. Tesla's also keep discharging while sitting idle so double Jeopardy. In a couple of years, this Tesla hype will be behind us and the Chinese are probably going to flood the market with cheap EV's just as they did with anything else.
Robotaxi's won't happen in large scale anytime within the next 10 years simply because the capital cost is too high on Tesla's even if you remove the driver. This is just Musk hyping up Tesla. Tesla's are not very reliable and have huge repair costs after a certain mileage, so rental operators will flip them after 2 years and 50k miles max and leave second hand buyers to struggle with the repair costs. Hertz will have to ask very high rental costs and add-on insurance to cover their costs, so I see them heading straight back for bankruptcy, but not before their current owners cash-out on the hype.
Well its a great way to use the vehicle in between rentals ( robotaxis )
Especially as Hertz locations are at most airports and to get to my hotel I want a cheap taxi service.
So having a Hertz Robotaxi collect me and take me to the hotel, and then later to the game makes complete sense.
Tesla will have Have drive My Kids gor School for 10K a Year. And from School with the Kid iPhone or Watch.
Tesla is just getting started.
Everything rides on the assumption that level 5 autonomy is right around the corner. What if it is never achieved, or only in 10 years or so? If robotaxis can only operate in mapped urban areas and/or under strict regulation, it will be great, but not as disruptive as we believe. Can't wait to see!
My guess is level 3 with drivers will be the norm.
nice vid man
i own tesla and Tesla navigation sucks, they are 20 times behind Google maps and apple maps
I'm so glad I don't own a Taxi or a Hertz rental car in my garage like everyone else… So boring.
You have to be stupid to invest on ice vehicles.everybody know the are going bankrupt.
Damn so they bought the whole 10k fsd package
Tesla insurance is very attractive. It means positive profit feedback for the company. The safer they make the car the more they save on payouts.
Think beyond just people!! Robo delivery??!!!! Robo………..
Why do you say Tezla instead of Tesla ?????
Why is everyone talking about The MINT Corporation MITJF ?? Isn’t that the inexpensive stock that Warren Buffet, Elon and Jeff Bezos were adding to their repertoire?? Anyway!! Anyone who knows more? Let us know
Typically Hertz keeps cars 24 months, I doubt Tesla autopilot will advance enough to be RoboTaxi's in that time frame. It's good that Hertz is adding EV's to their lineup. Tesla should be able to manufacture 2 million vehicles next year so I think they will be able to fill the demand.
This guy talks big but they don’t have the money to do it or the purchase 200,000 cars it’s all marketing hype for a company has been failing for years and went bankrupt.
It looks like Hertz is going to position itself to become one of the largest robo-taxi operators.
Can Tesla make enough EVs? Is there a choice? Who thinks Tesla cannot figure this one out. Anyone? Bueller!
I always wander on what happened to the people in GM always saying that electric cars would never work. This happened on the year 2000 does anyone remember that?
it's Tesla not Tezla
Is it just me, or are other people also wondering whether Ford wanted to modernize under this guy? Seems to me he's all about modernizing where Ford is al about replacing the horse and carriage..
Robo taxis will put rental car companies out of business. Hertz is smart doing this because they can convert their fleet to taxis when the time comes and stay in business. Those who don’t do this are doomed.
I hope Hertz does not need to make profit within the next 10 years. If they can do that, it will be a huge success.
I think Hertz should buy Bitcoin too. And maybe some Gamestop.
After having some doubts on investing in crypto, I feel so ecstatic now on my first profit withdrawal of $16,200 from my $3,400 investment.
I hope Hertz didn't put too much into this. Musk said there would be a million Tesla robo taxis on the road by now but currently there's only…uh…zero. Good luck, I guess.
Elon Musk has openly made it known that he wants to get to a point when Tesla does not sell vehicles to individuals, but rather use all Tesla vehicles in a robotaxi format.
Robo taxi is a long long long way off. Great they have it but it's not happening any time soon
I fully agree: robotaxis will be at the core of Hertz business model in 2025, and yes they need to get into the EV ecosystem which includes energy storage now. Hertz went broke recently, a great moment to revolutionize things…no internal resistance!
Tesla has the biggest production rate potential , as they have found the sweet spot that balances innovation and optimization. One trillion for each of the three components: EV, Energy Storage and AI (FSD and Teslabot ).
